On May 1st the 1911 Grand American Handicap gold medal won by Harvey Dixon, of Oronogo, Missouri was up for sale. This remarkable medal was presented to Mr. Dixon for winning the 12th G.A.H. at Columbus, Ohio, June 22, 1911. Within hours TS.Com members made the decision to save the medal and donate it to the Trapshooting Hall of Fame by pledging donations for its purchase. The seller gave them two weeks to raise $5,000 and by the deadline, pledges exceeded the purchase price.
Arrangements were made for the certification of the medal and on May 31st the purchase was completed thanks to the generosity of an unnamed person who put up the funds until the donations are received at the THOF office. The medal is currently being held in trust and the loan will be repaid shortly as donations have almost reached our goal. Monies collected in excess of the necessary amount will be used to purchase a display case for the medal.
In the near future, "Special Recognition" will be presented to each donor for making this accession possible. The medal will be displayed on our website www.traphof.org and we hope to have it on display at this year's Grand American for all to admire. |
